Congratulations to the Winners of the 2025 GSK Vaccines Prizes!

At GSK, our commitment to everyone's health is also reflected in our active support for scientific research. We are, therefore, particularly proud to celebrate the winners of the GSK Vaccines Prizes, an initiative of the “Académie Royale de Médecine de Belgique” and the "Koninklijke Academie voor Geneeskunde van België." These prestigious prizes recognise excellence in the field of vaccinology and immunology.

The GSK Vaccines Prizes are among the oldest and most significant awards in the country, established through the patronage of pharmaceutical companies. Originating in 1959, these prizes have been recognising outstanding medical scientific research in Belgium and Luxembourg for over half a century. The list of laureates is impressive, and this year, the Prizes continue to reward exceptional research in the fields of vaccinology and immunology.

This year, the honour goes to Belgian and Luxembourg researchers whose work opens new perspectives for the prevention and treatment of diseases. The laureates are:

  • Damya Laoui (Vrije Universiteit Brussel): Her innovative research explores the potential of dendritic cells as weapons against cancer ("Dendritic Cells as Weapons Against Cancer"). Her work could lead to more personalised and effective approaches in immuno-oncology.
  • Eric Muraille (Université libre de Bruxelles) and Xavier De Bolle (Université de Namur): Their collaboration has led to the development of a rational approach to designing live attenuated vaccines against brucellosis ("Rational development of safer live attenuated vaccines against brucellosis using Transposon Sequencing."). This zoonotic disease, which affects many regions of the world, could be better controlled thanks to their work.

The awards ceremony, held on 27 September 2025, was an opportunity to celebrate the excellence of these researchers and their essential contribution to science and public health. At GSK, we are convinced that by joining forces, we can advance medicine and improve the quality of life for everyone.
